Command Sergeant Major John Kessler, a dedicated community volunteer, served in the United States Army and retired after nearly 30 years of active duty service. His remarkable military career is filled with unique experiences and assignments in Army Aviation, Military Intelligence, Special Operations, and Human Resources.
CSM Kessler's responsibilities have included the development, training, resourcing, and leadership of large organizations comprising up to 145,000 Soldiers and Civilian Staff.
His leadership skills and business acumen are highly sought after. He has advised over 14 General Officers, Congressman, Senators, and foreign dignitaries on human capital, personnel, training, readiness, equipment requirements, organizational operations, and deployments with budgets in excess of 5 billion dollars. John Kessler's journey from "Soldier to Statesman" exemplifies his commitment to selfless service and leadership, further evidenced by his involvement with the Conroe City Council.
John Kessler brought his leadership experience to the greater Houston area in 2010, successfully influencing positive change throughout our military and civilian communities. With a notable military career, he has always prioritized service to others and community engagement.
As the Vice President of Montgomery County Municipal Utility District 94, John Kessler led discussions and voted for fiscally sound infrastructure improvements, implemented a professional development training program, eliminated wasteful spending, and enacted budget reforms without raising property taxes.
After moving to Conroe, Texas in 2024, John was sought after for his business acumen and expertise, advising small businesses and entrepreneurs. His commitment as a community volunteer has been instrumental in fostering local growth.
On December 11, 2025, Director Kessler was appointed to the Conroe Industrial Development Corporation, where he promotes responsible development and economic growth while protecting the natural beauty of Conroe. In his private capacity, he advises and leads discussions and forums on economic development with both small and large businesses.
John's campaign theme, "Soldier to Statesman", reflects a lifetime of selfless service to our country. He is committed to providing strong leadership focused on fiscal responsibility, protecting natural resources, fostering economic growth in both small and large businesses, while enhancing the beauty of Conroe.

As a Sheriff's Deputy, John Kessler has faced danger and encountered the unknown. His bravery was recognized when he was awarded Deputy of the Year and the Meritorious Achievement Award. He understands the critical importance of supporting our first responders and values his opportunity to volunteer with the men and women of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department in various capacities. For 14 years, this dedicated community volunteer has raised money for scholarships, engaged with schools and businesses about youth and education, and served as a tractor driver for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This is where the silent hero's make a difference in the lives of individuals they may never meet. As someone who transitioned from a military career to a role in public service, John embodies the spirit of a "Soldier to Statesman". His efforts reflect a legacy we can all agree on.

John Kessler's military career is extensive in the technical fields of Aviation, Military Intelligence, Special Operations, and Human Resources. He has also trained at some of the world's most sought-after leadership schools, skillfully preparing for the responsibilities of an Army Executive. As a strong advocate for lifelong learning, he believes that education never stops and practices this philosophy himself. After retiring from the United States Army at the young age of 49, John Kessler returned to school and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Master's in Business Administration. Notably, he was one of the few students ever selected to give the commencement speech not just for his class but for the entire graduating class of 2016 from Mays Business School at Reed Stadium, in front of more than 15,000 in attendance. In addition to his impressive background, John is also a dedicated community volunteer and actively participates in local initiatives, including serving on the Conroe's Industrial Development Company.
